Edison Visits 2A Soldiers Chaminade
By Rudy Rodriguez-Chomat
October 21, 2003
Edison is finally going to find out what it’s really made of.
This Friday, the Red Raiders travel to undefeated Chaminade and do battle with the #1 ranked team in Class 2A. While some people may think it’s a 5A team versus a 2A team; therefore, the 5A team should automatically win, they better think twice.
Chaminade is not the ordinary 2A team. The Lions have played 6 of their first 7 games on the road, including wins at Vero Beach, Bradenton Manatee, Fort Myers Bishop Verot and Clewiston. The schedule this team has taken on was put together for one reason.
To win the Class 2A state championship.
Edison was one of the teams put on the schedule for that specific reason. Edison started the season as a favorite for the 5A state championship, but its offense has sputtered all season leaving doubts in the minds of many on how far the Red Raiders can really go once the playoffs begin.
Another doubt, not from Edison itself, but from the local media, that has emerged is if they can beat Chaminade.
To put it nicely, the Edison offense has been very inconsistent. One game up. One game down. It has been that way the entire season. Could it possibly change against a team as good as Chaminade?
Chaminade is led by running backs Alex Broomfield and Charles McCrea on the offense and John Dunlap and Octavious Darby on the defense.
Edison’s strength is defense and it will have to be awesome because the expectation of the Red Raiders scoring more than 14 points offensively is slim.
The Red Raiders defense is led by defensive tackle Richard Clebert and linebackers Jarrell Guyton, Brouce Mompremier and Jermaine Harris. That will be the key for Edison because if Chaminade is able to put some points on the board, Edison could find itself looking from the losing side of the scoreboard.
This game is being played at Hollywood McArthur High School on Friday at 7pm. Get there early cause the seats will fill up fast. Check out our prediction Thursday for this game and all the other games in Dade County.
