The Streak is Over: Edison Stomps Carol City

Who would have thought Edison would be 4-0? Not many, but the soldiers wearing red and white knew it would happen, and it did as Edison shocked Carol City 21-6 at Traz Powell before 1,500, it’s first win over the Chiefs in 14 years.

Behind the power running attack that amassed 246 on 36 carries and an offensive line that consistently blasted Carol City’s defensive line off the ball, the Red Raiders came back from and early 6-0 deficit to put the Chiefs away late in the game on a 45-yard punt return for touchdown by Fred Killings.

Chad Simpson led Edison with 110 yards on 18 carries and 1 TD, but it was a team effort that made it such a dominant performance by the Red Raiders.

The defense was just as dominant controlling the line of scrimmage limiting Carol City to only 132 yards of total offense.

“We did a tremendous job on offense and defense,” Edison head coach Corey Bell said. “The kids showed that we are for real. I think our speed really cost Carol City tonight. They couldn’t keep up with us.”

Leading the way on the defensive side of the ball were linebackers Brouce Mompremier and Jarell Guyton and defensive linemen Renard Stevens and Robson Lindor who made a living in the Chiefs’ backfield with 5 sacks of Carol City QB Reid Stanley, who even when he was in a passing situation couldn’t because the Red Raiders’ defense was under his chin strap.

“We always talk about defense winning championship,” Bell said. “Yes, we average 40 points a game right now, but there is no way we are going to score 40 points a game all year. Our defense has to do it.”

And the defense did it time and time again. Falling behind 6-0 early after turning the ball over, Carol City did nothing else offensively the rest of the game as Edison controlled both sides of the ball, the clock, the momentum and the ballgame as a whole.

The one area that plagued Edison was their inability to keep their hands on the ball. They dropped four passes, one that led to an intereception that gave the Chiefs their only score as well as a fumble at the Carol City 1-yard line.

In simple terms, 21-6 was a nice final score for Carol City after being slammed all night long. Just imagine when Edison actually puts together a full game. Could be scary. Don’t look past this team because the RED RAIDERS ARE FOR REAL!!!
